Meet the folks at the Bin - the most knowledgable and entertaining bunch to ever pull your cork. We wanted to give you a good idea of the personalities who pour your potion, so we issued them all the same questionnaire and told them to have fun with it. Below are their responses. Once you feel like you know them, come on in and introduce yourself!
Name: Jen
Title: Wine Associate/Club Girl
Relevant wine background:
I am relatively new to the wine worldenjoying learning more every sip of the way. As a result, I’m very understanding of the delights and confusions of newbie wine drinkers.
Completely irrelevant background:
I am also a printmaker and an avid gardener.
If I were a grape, I'd be
Pinot Noir because it rewards dedicated cultivation.
Favorite red wine:
Southern Rhone wines Chateauneuf du Pape and friends. They are sippable and food versatile..
Favorite white wine:
Luca Chardonnay
Favorite song to listen to while sipping wine:
Anything by Cole Porter or Morphinebut not simultaneously.
Favorite movie to watch while sipping wine:
Babette’s Feast
Favorite book to read while sipping wine:
Any art or plant book full of pictures and informative text: sip, flip, sip, flip......
Name: Tim
Title: Wine guy
Relevant wine background:
I started working for Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant in Berkeley, CA about two years ago. I fell in love with wine, moved out to Baltimore, and got thrown into the Bin. I am also, possibly, the only sherry-lover in the shop.
Completely irrelevant background:
I am suspicious of all things that give me pleasure.
And, I’m the recipient of the Boobie Prize.
If you were a grape, which varietal would you be and why?
Chenin Blanc. An ocean of horrible Chenin Blanc is made but the few good ones are nicely balanced, honeyed and slightlyeven totally sweet (just like me).
Favorite red wine, why?:
J.L. Chave’s Hermitage. Why? You’ll have to try it for yourself....
Favorite white wine, why?:
German Rieslings. There is no better value on this planet. Don’t overlook them just because a little sweetness is unfashionable.
Favorite song to listen to while sipping wine:
Like most of the Bin staff, I prefer Neil Young with my wine.
Favorite movie to watch while sipping wine:
Anything by David Lynch. The movies don’t make any sense until you’ve had a few glasses.
Favorite book to read while sipping wine:
Adventures on the Wine Route by Kermit Lynch especially if you’re sipping on a big, buttery, rich, oaky Californian Chardonnay!
