Australian Reds

Although Australia has had vineyards since the late 1700's, it wasn't until the late 1950's that Aussie winemakers started to focus on table wines. By the 1980's Australian wines finally began to get the attention of the rest of the world. Southern Australia’s forte is Shiraz, a bold, spicy berry-driven wine not for the faint of heart. Shiraz and Syrah are two different names for the same exact grape.

Cabernet Sauvignon

The king of grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon produces full-bodied and well-structured red wine with the ability to improve with bottle aging. Look for fruit flavors of currants, cassis, and berries accented by notes ranging from dried herbs and earth to tobacco, leather, and cedar.

Italian Reds

Italy is the world's largest wine producer, with production just under 25% of the world's total. It is also the greatest wine consumer. Italy is a land of vast geographic diversity ranging from its northern cool-temperature vineyards in the foothills of the Alps to the hot southland.

Kosher Wines

These wines are made according to Jewish rabbinical law. Kosher wine production must follow precise standards of purity under the direction of a rabbi and may be handled only by workers who are orthodox Jews.

Merlot

In French, the word Merlot means "young blackbird," probably alluding to the grape's beautiful dark-blue color. Merlot grapes ripen fairly early and have lower trannins compared to Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot wines are medium to dark red in color, rich and fruity, with characteristics of black currant, cherry and mint.

Pinot Noir

The combination of Pinot Noir's mutating characteristics and difficult growing requirements (a long, cool growing season) makes this variety a frustrating grape from which to make wine. The flavor is chameleon like. When young, good wines exhibit the simpler fruity characteristics of cherries, plums, raspberries and strawberries. As they mature, they display a variety of complex characteristics including chocolate, game, figs, prunes, smokiness, truffles and violets.

Red Bordeaux

Bordeaux is an area in southwest France considered by most wine enthusiasts as the world's greatest wine producing region. Bordeaux's red wines make up 75% of the production. The primary red grape varieties used in Bordeaux are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

Red Burgundy & Beaujolais

Pinot Noir is the red grape of France's Burgundy region. Southern France

Southern France is the home of the Rhone Valley, Provence, and the Languedoc. The main grape varietals grown in the Southern Rhone, Provence, and Languedoc are Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, usually with a preponderance of Grenache, a full-bodied, high alcohol grape that tastes of cherry liqueur and raspberries. The Northern Rhone valley is home to the greatest expressions of Syrah with villages such as Hermitage, Cote Rotie, and Cornas. Some great values can be found in Cote du Rhone, Coteaux du Languedoc, and many others.

Spanish Reds

Impressively, Spain has more vineyard acreage than any other country. Spain’s specialty are rich red wines made from grapes such as Tempranillo, Garnacha (a.k.a. Grenache), and Monastrell (a.k.a. Mourvedre/Mataro). Many of our best bargain wines are found in this category.

Located on the German border in northeast France, Alsace is one of France's most beautiful wine regions. Alsace differs from other French wine making regions because of its widespread German influence. Alsatian vintners make dry wines with high alcohol content and usually with riper, more scented fruit.

Chardonnay

The queen of white wines, Chardonnay is grown throughout the world. Because of this, it can take on several different flavor profiles. Chardonnay can be medium-bodied with notes of apple and pear, or rich and creamy with tropical fruit, vanilla, and melted butter.

Riesling

Riesling is considered one of the world's great white wine grapes and produces some of the very best white wines. It is a native of Germany, where it is believed to have been cultivated for at least 500 years. The Riesling grape's ability to retain its acidity while achieving high sugar levels is what creates wines with considerable aging potential. Riesling wines are delicate but complex and are characterized by a spicy, fruit flavor, a flower scented bouquet and a long finish.

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is the white wine grape that is widely cultivated in France and California. These wines have noticeable acidity and a grassy, herbaceous aroma and flavor. They are light-bodied, crisp, citrusy wines that generally should be drunk young.

White Burgundy

Burgundy, Chardonnay’s homeland, produces elegant, minerally, and focused examples of this varietal.

Sparkling Wine

Don’t reserve sparkling wines only for special occasions; live it up with some everyday luxury! These beautiful wines bubble when poured in a glass. Although we tend to call all sparkling wines “Champagne,” to truly be so they must be produced in the Champagne region of France.

Dessert Wines

Generally speaking any of a wide variety of sweet wines (sometimes fortified with brandy), all of which are compatible with desserts.

Ports And Sherries

Ports is Portugal’s major contribution to the wine world. This full-bodied very sweet and spicy fortified wine is traditionally served as an after dinner drink. Enjoy them with chocolate and your richest desserts. Sherry, which comes from Spain, ranges from dry to sweet. Try a dry, nutty sherry as an apertif or with tapas.

Rosé

Rose is the best of both worlds—like a light red wine that you get to drink chilled.

There are many ways to categorize wines, a major one being either white or red. Yet we tend to overlook the entire range of pink wines that fall in between. Rosé (“pink” in French) refers to any wine hardly perceptible pink to a pale red. ). Technically, rosé can be produced from any red grape varietals, but some are more common than others.

The grape varietal, region, and winemaking style will influence the taste of a rosé wine. Rosé typically express fruit notes of strawberries, cherries, and raspberries. They range from light to medium in body and can also be acidic, minerally, dry, or off-dry (slightly sweet).
