Join Tony Foreman and Cindy Wolf for a very special evening with wine grower Vincenzo Abbruzzese and explore several of his wines during a tasting that begins at 6:30pm followed by a multi-course seasonal menu created by Chef Cindy Wolf.

In the Wine Buyers Guide Robert Parker asserts. "A strong argument can be made that Valdicava is among the top three or four Brunello di Montalcino producers." "Vincenzo Abruzzese continues to regularly out-perform the vast majority of his peers in Montalcino, many with – in theory – better vineyards..."

Wines presented during the tasting portion of the evening will include:

  • 2005 Valdicava Rosso
  • 2000 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino
  • 1998 Madonna del Piano Riserva
  • 1999 Madonna del Piano Riserva
  • 2001 Madonna del Piano Riserva

Wines presented with Chef Cindy Wolf’s seasonal menu will include:

  • 2004 Valdicava Rosso
  • 1998 Brunello di Montalcino
  • 1999 Brunello di Montalcino

Background on Vincenzo Abbruzzese

In his youth Vincenzo Abbruzzese spent summers working at Valdicava, his grandparents’ winery in northern Montalcino. His grandmother bought these gentle slopes in 1953 and with her husband planted the first vines here. Vincenzo took over the family business in 1987 with the property pleading for drastic improvements. His dedication and hard work has shaped Valdicava into the top quality winery he envisioned.

Vincenzo’s systematic changes have earned Valdicava a place among the elite producers of Brunello di Montalcino. With just 10 hectares in the coldest part of the Brunello zone, he is probably the most exacting grower in the area, managing vegetation so that each grape will enjoy the perfect amount of sun and mercilessly expunging tightly packed grapes to avoid rot and diseases. He has also rebuilt the cellar, where he replaced his grandparents’ botti with stainless steel and oak fermenters and new wood casks for ageing. Abbruzzese’s Brunello is truly outstanding; and all of his bottlings consistently demonstrate richness and excellent structure.
